CORE Preparation for Citizenship
Citizenship Preparation Services

There is a great need in the communities for expanded citizenship instruction to prepare permanent residents for the civics and English (reading and writing) components of the naturalization test for those taking the final step to becoming US citizens. CORE provides services in the preparation of naturalization application. The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) also complements these community programs with its Citizenship Resource Center, and web-based portal that centralizes resources for immigrants, educators and organizations, and the Citizenship Public Education and Awareness Initiative.
ESL/Civics Instructions

US Permanent residents must pass the English portion of citizenship test that determines their ability to speak and to understand English by a USCIS officer during the eligibility interview on the application for Naturalization. In addition, they must pass the civics portion that tests their knowledge of the US history and US government from the list of 100 questions.
CORE Civics and ESL Classes

As a nation of immigrants, the United States should strives to assimilate people of all races and ethnic backgrounds. CORE’s Immigration Services addresses this challenge. To this end, CORE conducts weekly classes for legal immigrants that are candidates to become American citizens. The classes are ESL, American history and American government and personal civic responsibility. CORE gives students the training needed to pass the citizenship exam by providing the logic and rationale behind the US constitution, Bill of Rights and other critical documents that service as our country’s intellectual foundation. CORE also promotes cultural assimilation by stressing the dangers of unlawful behavior, such as domestic violence as a violation of human rights. Finally, CORE communicates the responsibility potential and new citizens have to integrate into the mainstream of American culture by learning personal civic responsibilities.
